Strengthening the capacity of the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry for participation in international cooperation projects
Project summary
The objective of the project: The objective of the project is to promote the international research cooperation of the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry and strengthen its alignment with the priority areas of Latvia’s smart specialisation strategy (RIS3), particularly in the fields of knowledge-intensive bioeconomy and smart materials, technologies, and engineering systems. The project will also foster the development of interdisciplinary RIS3 specialisation areas and support more active participation of LSIWC in the “Horizon Europe” programme. The implementation of the project will expand LSIWC’s cooperation opportunities with leading foreign research centres, universities, and companies. Participation in the “Horizon Europe” programme will enable the Institute to develop new and promising research directions, deepen international collaboration, and become fully integrated into the European Research Area.
The project includes one activity: "Support for the preparation of project applications submitted in competitions under the Horizon Europe and FP10 sub-programmes and assessed above the quality threshold". The project includes activities such as identifying international research and innovation support programmes and potential partners, strengthening the network of foreign scientific partners, identifying calls for international cooperation programmes, preparing and submitting international cooperation project applications, project management and project publicity.
As a result of the project implementation, at least 50 international cooperation project applications will be developed, of which at least 26 will be approved or will receive an assessment above the quality threshold.
According to the OECD FOS (Revised Field of Science and Technology) classification of science fields, the Project will be implemented in the natural science fields – Chemical Science, Biological Science, Material Engineering and Earth and Related Environmental Science.
The duration of the project implementation is 56 (fifty-six) months. The project implementation started on April 1, 2025, and will be completed on November 30, 2029.
The total cost of the project is 338,000.00 euros, of which 287,300.00 euros are financed by the European Regional Development Fund, and 50,700.00 euros are financed by the state budget for the project. The project support intensity is 100%.
Call, activity: European Union Cohesion Policy Programme 2021–2027. 1.1.1. specific support objective "Strengthening research and innovation capacity and introducing advanced technologies into the common R&D system" 1.1.1.5. measure "Full participation of Latvia in the Horizon Europe programme, including ensuring a comprehensive range of support instruments and linking it to the development of RIS3 specialization areas".
