The rich history of the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry provides a deep understanding of the traditional wood procesing technologies, which is a strong basis for the development of new research directions. Through the combination of such values as scientific excellence and creative freedom, the staff of the Institute improve themselves as professionals and develop up-to-date research directions. Our comptences cover:
- chemistry, biotechnologies, material science, engineering,
- Life Cycle Analysis,
- systems calculation and modelling,
- development of analytical methods and testing of various samples.
We aim to create practically implementable knowledge, so we are open to cooperation with the industry, and we work on technology transfer and up-scaling in pilot equipment.
We are happy to be involved in the training of new scientists, we have a good cooperation with the biggest universities of Latvia, and we engage pupils to inform them about the career in science. To promote the career development of young scientists in the Baltic States and to strengthen contacts with international research groups, working on bioeconomy topics, we have established the International Conference for Young Scientists on Biorefinery Technologies and Products "BTechPro!", and we actively participate in other educational and communication events.
