The Latvian Academy of Sciences Award for the Most Significant Scientific Achievements of 2024

The researchers at the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry were honored at the Latvian Academy of Sciences’ ceremony recognizing the most significant scientific achievements of 2024. Our Polymer Laboratory, led by Academician Dr. sc. ing. Uģis Cābulis, was acknowledged for developing an advanced cryogenic insulation material, which has been successfully used for the thermal insulation of fuel tanks in the European Space Agency (ESA)’s latest launch vehicle, Ariane 6.

Award at the international competition "WorldStar for Packaging"

Ilze Irbe, a senior researcher at the Cellulose Laboratory of LSIWC, participated in the international competition "WorldStar for Packaging" with her entry "Mycelium composite pellets for protection of packaged products" and won the winning prize among 550 participants.

The award ceremony will take place on 30 May this year in Milan, during the IPACK-IMA packaging exhibition.

The second place prize at the Finance Ministry's event "Region Stars" in the category "Green Europe" was awarded to a project of the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry focusing on the extraction of microparticles of birch wood extractives and their functional use in eco-innovative products. "Zelta čiekurs 2024" diplomas

In 2024, two groups of LSIWC researchers received diplomas and recognition awards in the "Zelta čiekurs" ("Golden Cone") nomination "For scientific contribution to the development of the sector":
