On 1 April 2025, a BioPhoT Partner Event will take place, during which platform mentors will give a presentation on the practical aspects of BioPhoT. Mentors will explain what is expected from scientists when applying for and developing their ideas through the platform projects, what are the main deliverables and the deadlines for project applications. Scientists will also receive information on the role of the mentor in the application process and how to take their ideas further to the Pitch Sessions, where they will be evaluated by a panel of experts in the field. Mentors will provide information on the methodology that will be used to assess the TRL level at each stage. At the end, scientists will be able to ask questions. The event will take place within the framework of the National Research Programme long-term project "Biomedical and Photonics Research Platform for Innovative Products (BioPhoT)" No IVPP-EM-Innovation-2024/1-0002.

On 18 February this year, the final seminar of the international BarkBuild project will take place in Stockholm which will cover cutting-edge innovations in wood protection and sustainable building materials made from industrial tree bark waste. More about the seminar here The aim of the project "Tree bark as a renewable source of wood protection materials for building applications (BarkBuild)" is to develop new wood protection and building materials based on industrially available tree bark waste. On 12 February 2025 at 10:00 am the Wood Industry Future Forum will take place, with the participation and discussion of representatives from the Ministry of Economy, LIAA, local governments, the banking sector and wood industry companies. Answers to several important questions will be discussed: How to develop high added value and compete in a global market? How to attract investment and strengthen dialogue with public authorities? How local investors and regional companies can become a success story for Latvia's economy? The forum is organisedby STIGA RM and Employers' Confederation of Latvia. On 11 December this year, the workshop "Advancing Green Chemistry Technologies" will take place at Ghent University, Belgium, and will cover topics such as: Greening pharmaceutical synthesis – more sustainable methodology Benign by Design Artificial Intelligence Production / scale-up plants Leading researcher of the Biorefinery Laboratory, Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry Jānis Rižikovs will be a speaker at the seminar and will talk about the extraction of valuable extracts from birch bark. He will share his experience in developing extraction technologies, scaling them up and cooperating with entrepreneurs, as well as provide insights into the use of the biologically active extractive betulin. On December 2 of this year, an informal seminar on current topics in liquid chromatography will be held at the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry. Issues such as modeling and other digital tools for HPLC method development as well as sustainability aspects in analytical chemistry are expected to be discussed. The seminar will also present the study of the " GreenerLC" project on the use of acetonitrile and methanol in HPLC determination of furans and phenols. The European Researchers' Night 2024 will take place on 27 September under the theme 'Living in a Smart World'. It is a European-level event for the promotion of research and its achievements, which takes place every year on the last Friday of September. Universities and research institutes are opened to the general public so that anyone interested can meet researchers, go on excursions, watch shows, participate in experiments and discussions.
