Investigation of binder-less fibreboards made of steam-exploded wheat straw and hemp shives
Project goal
The scientific objective of the project is aimed at development of technology of binder-less fibreboards made of steam-exploded agricultural residues such as wheat straw (Triticum aestivum) and hemp (Cannabis sativa) shives.
Main activities of the project: (1) investigation of raw and pre-treated materials; (2) hydrothermal pre-treatment by steam explosion (SE) of the raw materials and binder-less board preparation from the obtained pulp by hot-pressing under different conditions; (3) studies of the obtained fibreboards to determining relevant physical-mechanical properties and possible applications with special emphasis on emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC).
Project duration: 36 months. Total eligible costs of the Project account for 133,805.88 euros, including funding from the European Regional Development Fund – 113,734.99 euros.
