Project description:
Water pollution and inefficient biomass use are critical challenges in the Baltic Sea region and Eastern Europe. While Sweden has well-managed water resources, Poland, Latvia and Ukraine face serious pollution from industrial, agricultural and military sources. The aim of this project is to develop sustainable water treatment technologies using biosorbents derived from lignin, carbonized biomass and biopolymers. By valorizing forestry and agricultural residues, we promote circular economy practices and reduce environmental impact. The project fosters international cooperation between Sweden, Poland, Latvia and Ukraine, promoting knowledge exchange and capacity building. Expected results include improved water quality, strengthened research networks and integration of biosorbent technologies into industrial and policy frameworks, ensuring long-term sustainability and regional resilience.
