Sustainable Wood-Based Materials for Construction: LSIWC Researchers at AGROSYM 2026
Researchers Ramūnas Tupčiauskas and Andris Bērziņš from the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry (LSIWC) participated in the 17th International Symposium on Agriculture, AGROSYM 2026, held in Jahorina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from 6 to 9 October. Both researchers delivered oral presentations in the “Forestry and Agroforestry” section, presenting their research on bio-based coatings and the use of wood-based panels in building façades.
In his presentation, “Performance of bio-based coatings on façade panels: results after one-year outdoor weathering,” Andris Bērziņš presented research findings on the performance of bio-based coatings on façade panels following one year of outdoor weathering.
Ramūnas Tupčiauskas presented his research in a talk entitled “Investigation of bio-based particleboard for application in building facade,” exploring the potential of bio-based particleboard for use in building façades.
Both presentations were prepared and delivered as part of the Fundamental and Applied Research Project (FLPP) “Investigation of Innovative Biomass Panels for Application in Exterior Building Façades” (LZP-2023/1-0348). The presentations attracted interest from the audience and prompted questions about the research findings.
AGROSYM is an annual international scientific symposium that promotes the exchange of ideas and collaboration in agriculture, food, rural development, environmental protection and forestry. The conference featured both oral and poster presentations on current research in these fields.
Furthermore, as LSIWC leading researcher Ramūnas Tupčiauskas notes, this year’s conference placed increasing emphasis on digitalisation and the use of artificial intelligence.
For both researchers, the conference provided an opportunity to share their research findings, learn about the work of other researchers and exchange ideas on current developments in forestry and wood-based materials.
