Science Without Borders: From Riga to Naples

The University of Naples Federico II has been the academic home to numerous distinguished figures, including philosopher and mathematician Giordano Bruno, mathematician Renato Caccioppoli, and astronomer Giuseppe Piazzi. Today, the university continues its legacy of excellence, particularly in engineering and applied sciences.
Ranked among Italy’s top institutions for civil engineering, the university boasts a robust Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering. Additionally, its Department of Industrial Engineering, specifically the Aerospace Engineering Division, is renowned for its contributions to aeronautics and renewable energy research.
In this esteemed setting, our Scientific Director, Dr. Uģis Cābulis, delivered a lecture on May 19 titled:
“An approach based on the European Green Deal trends in the development of cryogenic insulation for space launchers and civil aviation.”
The lecture, hosted by Ph.D. Letizia Verdolotti, garnered significant interest, highlighting the potential for intensified collaboration between the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry, the University of Naples Federico II, and the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche.
Discussions also encompassed prospective joint projects under the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU). Furthermore, the visit reinforced partnerships with BIOMAT Project members Letizia Verdolotti, Federica Recupido, and Giuseppe Cesare Lama.
We extend our gratitude to Vincenzo Russo for the insightful dialogues, paving the way for future collaborations in polymer chemistry and technology.
