Science, Courage and Curiosity: Laura Andže Featured in BNN Quarterly
The latest issue of the international magazine BNN Quarterly features an interview with Laura Andže, Leading Researcher and Vice-Chair of the Scientific Council at the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry (LSIWC). The issue, titled Women at the Forefront of Science & Innovation, highlights women scientists whose work is driving innovation and shaping the technologies of the future.
In the interview, Laura reflects on her journey in science, from her early interest in chemistry and international research experience to her work at the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry and the development of the OsteoWood project. She shares how an unexpected idea of using wood in orthopedic implants evolved into an interdisciplinary research project that has since gained international recognition.
Laura also emphasizes that a scientific career rarely follows a predetermined path. International experience, work outside academia, raising children, and collaboration with experts from different disciplines have all contributed to broadening her perspective and developing valuable skills as a researcher. She believes that bold ideas require time, perseverance, and patience before they can become tangible results.
Another key theme of the interview is Laura's perspective on the mindset of a scientist.
