The first call for research and innovation project (RIP) proposals under the BioPhoT platform has been announced.

The Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (OSI), in cooperation with Latvia’s leading scientific institutions, announces the first call for Research and Innovation Project (RIP) proposals within the framework of the platform “Biomedical and Photonics Research Platform for the Development of Innovative Products” (“BioPhoT”).
The application deadline is May 8, 2025, and a total of 6 million euros is available for research and innovation projects in the RIS3 fields of biomedicine, medical technologies, pharmaceuticals, photonics, smart materials, and engineering systems. In the case of a high number of highly rated applications, the Platform’s Project Management Group may decide to allocate additional funding of up to 2 million euros.
An informative seminar will be held on April 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the conference hall of the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science, Dzērbenes iela 14, to provide information on the application process, collaboration opportunities with mentors, and to address frequently asked questions.
Each RIP can receive up to 200,000 euros in funding. Projects must be implemented within 12 months, with the possibility of a 3-month extension without additional funding. The applicant must be a scientific institution. The competition guidelines and annexes can be found below.
Mentor consultations are available during the RIP application preparation process. To apply for a mentor consultation, download and complete the application form (below this text) and send it to: biophot@osi.lv.
BioPhoT (Biomedical and Photonics Research Platform for the Development of Innovative Products) is a long-term national research program established to foster collaboration between scientists and the commercial sector by developing new technologies with high commercialization potential in biomedicine, photonics, and related fields.
