Awarding ceremony "Reģionu zvaigznes 2024"
On 12 December this year, the Ministry of Finance hosted the "Region Stars 2024" event, which honoured European Union (EU)-funded projects with high added value in Latvia.
The event, organised by the Ministry of Finance, symbolically marked Latvia's 20th anniversary in the European Union.
The prizes were awarded to the three most outstanding projects in five categories: 'Competitive and Smart Europe', 'Green Europe', 'Connected Europe', 'Social and Inclusive Europe' and 'A Europe closer to Citizens'.
Projects carried out at the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry received two awards in the "Green Europe" category:
first prize went to the project of the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry and VLT Ltd, which aimed to develop sustainable packaging from natural fibres, biopolymers and mushroom mycelium, thus offering an alternative to the use of plastics and developing sustainable and environmentally friendly production,
the second prize was awarded to a project of the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry focusing on the extraction of microparticles of birch wood extractives and their functional use in eco-innovative products.
