Study of obtaining, production and application of high specific surface area birch outer bark betulin particles in dispersed systems
Project summary
to carry out an industrial study related to economic activity, combining the chemical, chemical engineering and nanotechnology sectors, and to promote the spread of knowledge by developing novel, eco-innovative, easy-to-scale in industrial production technologies for obtaining birch outer bark betulin particles with increased specific surface areas, and studying their functional properties in dispersed systems for multi-faceted applications.
Main activities of the project:
- Development of methods for obtaining and storage of high specific surface area birch outer bark betulin particles and characterisation of the obtained particles;
- Obtaining and characterisation of dispersed systems of high specific surface area birch outer bark betulin particles;
- Scaling of high specific surface area birch outer bark betulin particles – obtaining of pilot batches;
- Adaptation of high specific surface area birch outer bark betulin particles – solvent mass, oleogels and Pickering emulsions, and in-depth testing of the final product for applications in the cosmetic, dietary supplements and pharmaceutical industries;
- Dissemination of results and technology transfer.
Main results of the project:
- 4 eco-innovative technology prototypes;
- 9 new product prototypes;
- 6 scientific publications.
Project implementation period: 35 months – from 01.01.2021 to 30.11.2023.
Total financing of the project: total project costs: 704 158.17 EUR excluding VAT (ERDF weighted average co-financing rate – 71.00%, ERDF support 499 979.58 EUR).
Call, activity: Measure 1.1.1.1 “Industry-Driven Research” of specific objective 1.1.1 “To increase the research and innovation capacity of scientific institutions of Latvia and their ability to attract external funding by investing in human resources and infrastructure” of operational programme “Growth and Employment”
