LSIWC supports the education of the next generation of scientists

On June 10, Dr.sc.ing. Anda Fridrihsone, leading researcher at the Polymer Laboratory of the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry, participated in a thank-you breakfast organized by the RTU Children’s and Youth University. The event brought together professionals from various fields who, through their work, help spark curiosity and interest in science, technology, and engineering among children and young people.

Zanda Kracmane, the head of RTU Children’s and Youth University, is the heart and soul of this inspiring initiative. Her work is much more than event coordination – it is a mission she pursues with genuine dedication and the firm belief that all children deserve access to real scientific experiences.

RTU Children’s and Youth University (BJU) offers a series of educational sessions for students in grades 2–9, introducing them to the exciting laws of the natural world and the professional possibilities within engineering. The sessions take place in Riga and surrounding municipalities and are licensed as extracurricular education programs.

RTU BJU is part of the international EUCU.net network (The European Children’s Universities Network), which connects children’s universities across Europe and beyond. EUCU.net promotes experience exchange, collaboration, and the development of good practices. It supports the recognition of children’s universities as key early-stage initiatives that guide children’s curiosity into the world of science.

LSIWC is pleased to continue its cooperation with RTU BJU to strengthen the presence of science in children’s daily lives and contribute to the formation of the next generation of researchers.
