A biorefinery approach to the separation and application of the products of lignocellulose pyrolysis
Call, activity
Cooperation partners
Leading partner - Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry
Cooperation partner
- Kaunas University of Technology, the Department of Food Science and Technology
Project goal
To develop a novel, practically applicable, comprehensive scheme for the separation of biomass-based pyrolysis products into valuable chemicals in accordance with biorefinery principles, after qualitatively and quantitatively characterising pyrolysis products with modern analytical methods.
Main activities of the project: 1) Comprehensive analysis of pyrolysis condensates obtained from lignocellulose; 2) Fractionation of the pyrolysis condensates; 3) Analysis of the pyrolysis product fractions and purification of specific chemicals; 4) Development of a universal scheme for the sequential separation of valuable products from pyrolysis condensates according to biorefinery principles.
Scientific consultant: Dr.sc.ing. Aivars Žūriņš.
Project duration: 36 months
Total eligible costs of the Project account for 133,805.88 EUR, including funding from the European Regional Development Fund in amount of 85 % – 113,734.99 EUR.
