Project summary
The objective of the project is directed to lignin and other biorefinery by-product utilization converting them into high added value products- nanoporous activated carbon materials for use in the production of supercapacitators and fuel cell electrodes for the needs of the electrotechnical and electronical industry, creating a closed economically beneficial zero waste technology.
Main activities
In order to implement the project, the following activities will be carried out:
1) industrial research:
- preparation and characterization of the raw materials;
- investigation of the conversion of the residues into chemically activated carbon;
- preparation and characterization of activated carbon composites;
- carbon composites doping with heteroatoms;
2) protection of technology rights;
3) dissemination of knowledge

Project implementation period: 30 months – from 01/06/2021 till 30/11/2023.
Total financing of the project: total costs of the project: EUR 498 653.74, ERDF co-financing 82.29% or EUR 410 342.16, state budget co-financing 10.21% or EUR 50 912.54, and other public funds 7.50% or EUR 37 399.04.
Call, activity: Measure 1.1.1.1 “Industry-Driven Research” of specific objective 1.1.1 “To increase the research and innovation capacity of scientific institutions of Latvia and their ability to attract external funding by investing in human resources and infrastructure” of operational programme “Growth and Employment”.
