BioCAN

Development of bio-based polymers with covalently adaptable networks for recyclable natural fiber reinforced composite production (BioCAN)

Aim of the project

The BioCAN project will develop recyclable thermoset polymer resin–vitrimers from bio-based feedstocks that will be reinforced with natural fiber to form composites. Two types of thermoset resin with high bio-based content will be developed and recycled via dynamic covalently adaptable networks (CAN). Vitrimer component synthesis technology will be scaled up to TRL5 for natural fiber-reinforced composites suitable for transportation applications. Furthermore, a hybrid natural fiber reinforced polymer composite will be developed for the transportation industry for interior parts, such as seats and panels. At end-of-life, these composites will be recycled through thermally reversible reactions of vitrimers.
