The research interests of Miķelis are related to the development of innovative polymers and their extraction from renewable and recyclable raw materials, replacing petroleum refinery products with more environmentally friendly alternatives. He has successfully been involved in several Fundamental and Applied Research Projects, European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and European Research Area Networks (ERA-Net) projects.
