PhD Daniela Godiņa, researcher at the Biorefining Laboratory of the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry - laureate of "Baltic scholarship for women in science 2024". Daniela is a talented young scientist who defended her thesis in 2024 "Characterization and process optimization of biomass valorization products of birch (Betula pendula) growing in Latvia" and continues research related to the use of birch extractives in the synthesis of bio-polymers. Daniela plans to use her analytical chemistry skills to unravel the chemical composition of the suberin macromolecule obtained from birch bark, as well as to synthesize new, practically applicable "green" materials.
The goal of the joint scholarship is to support female scientists so that they can build a career in the field of scientific research in the Baltic States, as well as popularize the achievements of young female scientists and encourage the most talented female students to choose the profession of a scientist.
