Uģis Cābulis Receives the Paul Walden Medal
With applause resounding, flowers in bloom, and the silver medals and crystal awards gleaming in the light, Latvia’s most outstanding scientists were honored today in the “Domus auditorialis” hall of Riga Technical University (RTU).
At the 66th International Scientific Conference of Riga Technical University, the Scientific Director of the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry (LSIWC), Head of the Polymer Laboratory, and Academician of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS), Dr.sc.ing. Uģis Cābulis, received the Pauls Walden Medal for his outstanding contribution to the development of polymer materials and space technologies.
Uģis Cābulis’ scientific work spans a broad field of polyurethane chemistry and technology, with particular emphasis on cryogenic insulation materials and collaboration with the space industry. Under his leadership, an insulation material developed at LSIWC is used in the construction of the European launch vehicle “Ariane 6.” For this innovation, our Scientific Director has received both international recognition and the LAS Award “Scientific Achievement of the Year 2024.”
Uģis Cābulis has authored more than 110 SCOPUS-indexed publications, and his Hirsch index is 31.
Under the leadership of Academician U. Cābulis, the Polymer Laboratory of LSIWC maintains close cooperation with the RTU Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technologies and actively contributes to the education of new generations of specialists.
