LSIWC's Participation in the University of Latvia’s Icebreakers’25 Festival: Green Innovations and Collaboration in Entrepreneurship

On March 6, the University of Latvia’s House of Sciences hosted the Icebreakers’25 Business Opportunities Festival, bringing together students, scientists, and entrepreneurs to promote idea exchange, innovation, and collaboration across academic, public, and private sectors.

Representing the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry (LSIWC), our researcher Ph.D. Daniela Godiņa presented on “Green Innovations: How the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry is Shaping the Future,” highlighting the institute’s commitment to developing sustainable innovations and fostering collaboration between science and industry.

The festival’s highlight was a business idea competition, where authors of the most promising ideas competed for a €10,000 grant to develop their business ventures.

Icebreakers’25 also featured technology demonstrations and an Expo zone showcasing the latest achievements in science and technology.

The festival served as a platform to promote innovation, share experiences, and establish new collaborative projects among students, scientists, and entrepreneurs.

BioPhoT’s Involvement in Icebreakers’25

As part of the Icebreakers’25 festival, the Biomedical and Photonics Research Platform for the Development of Innovative Products (BioPhoT) organized a side event. This session aimed to explore how research institutions can support both aspiring and established businesses. Members of the BioPhoT consortium, including the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry (LSIWC), participated in discussions focusing on strengthening collaboration between scientific research and the commercial sector. The event provided valuable insights into leveraging research expertise to drive business innovation and growth.
