On 12 November, Vilnius, Lithuania, hosted the award ceremony for the "Women in Science Baltic Fellowship 2024", and Daniela Godiņa, researcher of the Biorefinery Laboratory of the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry was among the laureates.
The aim of the fellowship is to support women scientists to pursue a career in scientific research in the Baltic States, to promote the achievements of young women scientists and to encourage the most talented students to choose a career in science.
The fellowship was awarded to three female scientists from each of the Baltic States, thus strengthening cooperation between Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia and increasing the international competitiveness of the Baltic States in research and innovation. During the ceremony, the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia, Anda Čakša, congratulated the Latvian laureates - Dr. chem. Daniela Godiņa, Dr. phil. Anne Sauka and Mg. Daniela's comment: "For me, this scholarship is a great achievement because it recognises my work and shows that my work is valuable and that I do it well. It also shows that I need to continue to analyse these bio-based samples and that biorefining and the circular economy, from a global perspective, are really important". Daniela will use the awardfor her project “Synthesis of bio-polymeric sorbents from extractives and suberin depolymerisation products derived from birch bark”, which will provide valuable insights into environmental science and analytical chemistry, fostering cooperation and contributing to sustainable development.
