LSIWC Participates in “Latvian Forest Days” in Tērvete
On May 22–23, 2026, the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry (LSIWC) participated in the forest education festival “Latvian Forest Days”, organised by Latvian State Forests and held at the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete. The theme of this year’s festival was “Capturing Carbon in Wood and Growing Oxygen”.
At the institute’s stand, visitors had the opportunity to learn more about LSIWC laboratories and current research activities, test their knowledge in identifying tree species and different wood materials, as well as explore the various ways wood can be used and the products that can be obtained from it.
On Friday, May 22, the institute was represented by researchers Daniela Godiņa and Laima Vēvere, while on Saturday, May 23, Daniela Godiņa was joined by leading researcher Prans Brazdausks.
During both days, Daniela Godiņa also participated in the festival programme “Forest Professions Fashion Show”, representing the profession of a chemist. On Saturday, she also gave an interview to Radio SWH about the institute and its ongoing research activities.
Participation in “Latvian Forest Days” provided an opportunity not only to introduce the public to the institute’s research and the possibilities of wood utilisation, but also to encourage interest in science, the bioeconomy and the sustainable use of natural resources. LSIWC thanks all festival visitors for their interest, questions and participation in the activities.
