LSIWC in European Space: Our Researcher at the International ESA Conference in Italy

“I am honoured to represent the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry and to showcase Latvia at the New Capabilities and Countries in European Space Conference,” writes our researcher, Mg. chem. Laima Vēvere, from Frascati, Italy, where she presented an innovative cryogenic insulation solution developed in Latvia for thermal insulation of space launcher propellant tanks.

This conference, organised by the Capability and Country Support Division of the ESA Directorate of Commercialization, Industry and Competitiveness, aims to foster collaboration between emerging and established space technology developers. The event features presentations of achievements from PECS countries, Associate and New Member States, along with networking events, poster sessions, and targeted training courses.

This year, the conference takes place against a unique geopolitical backdrop. The European Parliamentary Research Service has outlined four potential scenarios for EU space security by 2050 — ranging from collaboration to a new era of strategic competition. (*)

ESA’s initiatives, including events like this, are designed to support a sustainable and peaceful space ecosystem — one in which Latvia plays a meaningful and growing role.

We are proud of our colleague’s achievement and her active contribution to shaping the future of Europe in space!
