Defense of PhD thesis by Mārtiņš Andžs
On 12 December 2024 at the Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technology, Faculty of Forest and Environmental Sciences (LBTU MVZF), our colleague, Biorefinery Laboratory researcher Mārtiņš Andžs defended his doctoral thesis "Loose-fill heat insulation material obtained from hemp shives by steam explosion" and received Doctor of Science degree (Ph.D.) in Engineering and Technology. Supervisors: Dr. sc. ing. Inese Fiļipova and Dr. habil. chem. Jānis Grāvītis.
The aim of this thesis is the development of new loose-fill thermal insulation materials from hemp shives grown in Latvia using the steam explosion method.
The following tasks were carried out in the work:
- a method for processing hemp blades using steam explosion technology was developed,
- samples of loose-fill thermal insulation materials were prepared from hemp shive fibres,
- the physical and chemical properties of loose-fill thermal insulation materials and the factors influencing them were determined,
- the thermal insulation properties of loose-fill thermal insulation materials and the factors influencing them were determined,
- the application possibilities of hemp shives fibre loose-fill thermal insulation materials are described depending on the properties obtained.
We warmly congratulate the young scientist and wish him success in his future work!
