BioPhoT Industry Day

On 26 January 2026, the “BioPhoT” Industry Day will take place at the University of Latvia (UL) Academic Centre, House of Science, Jelgavas Street 3, Riga. The event will offer an opportunity to meet professionals in the field and learn about current “BioPhoT” research, solutions, and collaboration opportunities. Companies are invited to submit their challenges in the special Industry Challenge section on the “BioPhoT” website by 30 December. More information about this initiative and the benefits of participating will be provided in thematic webinars on 11 December.

The aim of the “BioPhoT” Industry Day is to strengthen collaboration between science and industry by advancing the fields of biomedicine, medical technologies, pharmaceuticals, photonics, smart materials, technology, and engineering systems, and by fostering an environment where new cooperation projects, technological solutions, and innovative ideas can develop.

The event will bring together companies, research institutions, and public-sector experts to promote closer cooperation between science and industry, to introduce current “BioPhoT” projects and emerging ideas that may be eligible for “BioPhoT” funding, and to discuss practical collaboration models. Thematic working sessions will highlight sector-specific challenges and research opportunities.

Participation in the event is free of charge. Registration: https://luma.com/i81hmsl0

For industry partners, this is an opportunity to gain direct insight into the “BioPhoT” research and innovation portfolio and to identify high-value collaboration opportunities:

The “BioPhoT” Industry Challenge is an initiative inviting companies to submit specific industry-related technological challenges that require specialised research, laboratory infrastructure, or high-level scientific expertise. Selected challenges will be presented during the thematic working sessions of the Industry Day, enabling companies to communicate their needs directly to researchers and to form targeted collaborations.

The deadline for companies to submit applications to participate in the Industry Challenge initiative at the Industry Day is 30 December.

On 11 December, two dedicated informational webinars for companies will be held, focusing on the “BioPhoT” platform and the opportunities offered by the Industry Challenge initiative – including beyond the Industry Day itself.

The webinars will explain how to submit a challenge to the initiative (both for the Industry Day and outside it), what the collaboration benefits are, and how the “meeting process” between industry and researchers works – a process that can lead to joint research and development projects.

Participation in the webinar will be particularly useful for companies that:

  • are looking for innovative solutions or new technologies;

  • face challenges related to sensor technologies, materials, measurements, or miniaturisation;

  • wish to collaborate with researchers and use specialised equipment without the need to invest in it;

  • want to test scientifically validated concepts before committing to development investments.
