Project goal

The objective of the project is based on LSIWC-commercialized technologies to develop and evaluate in real conditions the innovative biomass-based cladding panels for application in external building facades. Highly available raw biomass like wheat straw and exportable paper wood could be used to obtain high-density panels as alternative to conventional cement-based fiberboard which energy capacity and CO2 emission are very high during the production. Steam explosion treatment will be used to activate self-adhesion and thermo-reactivity of raw biomass, while ecological suberinic acids will be used to obtain humid resistant particleboard. Some additives like earth pigment and phosphor gypsum will be used in the composition to provide color and fire resistance of the panels. While functional coatings like chitosan and suberinic acids are intended to be used for the surface strengthening improving water and UV resistance. The panels will be tested according to EU regulations including utilization and life cycle analysis (LCA) achieving 2 prototypes with TRL 6-7. The project results will be published in 5 scientific papers (Q1-Q2) and presented in at least 2 international conferences. The implementation of the project will contribute to the materials science by developing biobased cladding materials with reduced CO2, development of Knowledge-Based Bioeconomy, implementation of Green Deal and Climate Change Neutrality, and progress of the scientific personnel.
