Develop efficient energy conversion process with overall design efficiency improvement >3% as compared with the unit as operated before retrofit-Improve environmental performance by preventive pre-treatment and removal of HAP. Removal of organic S, Cl>95%, Hg>99% and by use of clean fuel decrease GHG emission with >20% compared to best available technique. Decrease total production cost by >10 % below the cost of technologies that are in operation. Recycle/reuse the removed S, whereas production of by products will be capable of obtaining economic values greater than by products produced with any known technical solutions. Increase feed flexibility for different types of high S content coal and renewable biomass, providing net thermal efficiency on any co-used multi fuel of >65 %. Improve expanded use, EU dimension acceptability of renewable biomass and use waste vegetable oils for CC impregnation for safe/near zero emission clean energy.

Lignin is one of the most abundant renewable raw materials available on earth. Despite of its unique characteristics as a natural product with multiple chemical and biophysical functionalities, this resource is largely under-exploited, because of its image as low quality and low added value material. There is also a complete lack of organised professional co-ordination and communication tools explicitly and exclusively dedicated to lignin market promotion.
As remedy this CA will set up a multi-partner network improving:
1) traditional markets-large quantities but moderate value, "Materials";
2) high value markets ("Bio-chemistry": toxic biocides replacement, health prevention, probiotics and crop cultivation). The main tools are co-ordinated identification of the gaps between the state-of-art and the market needs, promotion of most promising projects and improvement of analytical standards.

The project aims at addressing the problem of pesticide pollution and contamination in the former countries of the Soviet Union (NIS states). It aims at developing novel chemical and physical methods for the remediation of pesticides and hence the decontamination of polluted soil, water and food. Major pesticides such as DDT, Linden and various organophosphates are the key focus of the work proposed. New materials, molecular receptors, extraction techniques and reagents will be devised and investigated in detail. They will offer the option of successful remediation of chemically diverse pesticides from various media.

The main aim of the activities of the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry is to meet the social and economic demands of Latvia by developing innovative products and technologies on the basis of wood and other types of biomass carrying out multidisciplinary theoretical and applied studies. The aim of the project is to integrate this Institute into the European research by establishing close cooperation with the leading European institutes: exchanging information and ideas; creating an approach to unique research equipment and methods, promoting the renewal of the Institute‘s scientific staff, involving young researchers in the science turnover. This project will intensify the scientific studies and, in collaboration with the Supervisory Board, will actualise the research directions. As a result, the development of Sees in Latvia and in general will be promoted for rational. Environmentally friendly utilization of wood and biomass.
