European Regional Development Fund project
(No. 2010/0288/2DP/2.1.1.1.0/10/APIA/VIAA/038)

General aim of the project – enhancement of the efficiency of the bioethanol obtaining technology and reduction of its adverse effect on the environment.

Specific aim of the project – development of a new wasteless technology for obtaining bioethanol and other valuable products from deciduous wood.

The project and research conform to the fields:

  1. Energy and environment;
  2. Sustainable utilisation of local resources – new products and technologies.

The following activities are planned in the framework of the project:

  1. Research (industrial study and experimental development):
    1.1.Studies on wood pre-treatment;
    1.2.Studies on bioethanol obtaining;
    1.3.Utilisation of the lignin residue   ;
    1.4. Development of a wasteless technology for obtaining bioethanol and other valuable products.
  2. Ensuring of the public accessibility of the research results;
  3. Securing of the industrial property rights of the research results.

As a result of the project, a new wasteless technology for obtaining bioethanol and other valuable products from deciduous wood will be developed; a new technology for obtaining of substrates will be developed; the technology of enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose will be upgraded, and the bioethanol fermentation technology will be upgraded.

The project implementation place Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry, 27 Dzērbenes Str., LV-1006 Riga, Latvia (http://www.kki.lv/; koks@edi.lv).

Project co-operation partners:

The scheduled total project implementation term - 36 months.

Project Manager - Dr.habil.chem. Nikolaj Vedernikov (ved@edi.lv).

Project open - January 3, 2011.

The activities implemented in the framework of the project have no economic character, because, in compliance with the Regulations No. 752 (07.07.2009), subclause 3.1. of the Cabinet of Ministers, the project corresponds to the following criteria:

  • Performs the main activities – research activities and dissemination of the results of research activities in the form of knowledge and technology transfer;
  • The reward, which is gained when realising these main activities, is repeatedly invested in the main activities;

Realization of project
