The economy based on local resources is a reliable foundation for sustainable development and further growth if those resources are purposefully used for producing competitive, innovative and knowledge-based products. The Programme was worked out with the aim to investigate and develop new products and technologies for their production, utilising Latvia’s earth entrails and forest field resources, local plant and animal raw materials, and to elaborate proposals for the long-term development of transport. The collected articles summarise the results gained in the course of the Programme, and the conclusions and recommendations made on their basis. The collection is formed with the aim to gain insight into the choice of the carried out studies, with references to the main publications in scientific editions. The National Research Programme is an invaluable instrument for the involvement of students and young researchers into practically oriented scientific studies.
